Congratulations to our sponsored player, Lucy Nye, who was selected for the UK Armed Forces (UKAF).
The Exeter Chiefs scrum-half was also named as UKAF’s vice-captain.
Lucy was proud to be a part of the International Defence Rugby Competition that ran in parallel with the start of the Women’s World Cup. This was another competition that will help grow the women’s game and put women’s rugby in the military on the map!
There were eight teams in the tournament, split into two pools representing Australia, Fiji, France, Ireland, Tonga, UK, Zambia and an invitational side, known as the Vodafone Looseheadz.
The UKAF played three games in the Pool stage of the tournament, beating Tonga 105-0, and Ireland 65-0, before coming out on top in a hard fought game against Zambia 32-22.
The UKAF met France, the current Cup Holders in the Semi-Final on Saturday 30th August, unfortunately losing 12-31.
UKAF won the 3rd place play-off against Ireland, and France just edged past Fiji 12-14 in the Final.
