EUROPEAN RUGBY 2016/17
EUROPEAN RUGBY – a few travel ideas for Ulster, Bordeaux and Clermont
European rugby is getting closer and quite a few of us have already decided which games we are travelling to, how we are getting there and what accommodation we are booking. For those of you who think that they may go, but are not sure which travel/accommodation option to choose, these are a few ideas, NOT SET IN STONE, that may help you.
Easyjet: Bristol – Belfast daily and convenient times
Flybe Exeter -Belfast. Daily but note that some flights can take a long time, diversions/changes Their fares are liable to escalate rapidly!!
BY AIR: www.easyjet.com
Easyjet- Bristol – Bordeaux , Departs Wednesday and Saturday. The other option here is to fly Bristol-Bordeaux then return by train to Toulouse – Bristol depending on match day and time.
Easyjet Gatwick – Bordeaux. Deps Thur/Fri and returns Sun/Mon
BA Gatwick – Bordeaux. - Daily
Flybe Exeter – Paris CDG– Bordeaux (not direct)
You can travel the whole way by rail, or you could fly to Paris CDG and then get the train to Bordeaux. It is a rail journey of approximately 4 hours, Also, for those of you who like to drive, don’t forget the ferry and take your car – and your sea-sickness pills!
Flybe Exeter – Clermont via CDG Paris. This is a more expensive option but it is convenient. Air France, or their cheaper option, run the Paris-Clermont leg of the trip. I have a feeling that it will cost about £350 return. You can also fly from Exeter to Paris CDG then travel from Gare de Bercy Paris by train to Clermont. This is a much cheaper option but to tie up with the return flight to Exeter you may have to leave Clermont at 6am, otherwise it entails an overnight stay in Paris.
Flybe Birmingham – Lyon- then drive.
BA Heathrow – Lyon – then drive.
DRIVE: Ferry Poole-Cherbourg then drive to Clermont, can be done in a day or you may like a leisurely stop over on the way. Short(ish) ferry crossing. Daily.www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/
Eurotunnel Drive all the way
BY RAIL: www.Eurostar.com uk.voyages.sncf.com
You can travel the whole journey by train using Eurostar to Paris Gare de Nord then SNCF from Gare de Bercy to Clermont. I can’t put the prices on here because there are so many options, including if you have a rail card and the time of day. You may not be able to get the January prices up yet, but you can get an approximate cost by putting in an October date now.
ACOMMODATION: Lots to choose from in both places. A good starting point would be to check out www.booking.com which lists hotels and apartments.
